The Elves and the Shoemaker Listen here!
g c
Once there was a poor shoemaker and his lovely wife
g c
They had worked so hard through their entire life
g c
But they had such trouble just making ends meet
g D7 g
Who knew it could be so hard making shoes for feet.
c g
With his last scrap of leather he cut out a shoe
c D7 g
And laid it on the table in the morning for to do
c g
As they lay, in their bed, the poor shoemaker said
c D7 g
I don’t know what we’ll do if I can’t sell this shoe
G a
Late that night, while they slept in their door two elves crept
D7 G D7 G
Those elves worked and sang too, as they finished that shoe
G a
La la la, La la li. La la li, La la loo,
D7 G D7 G
We will help the poor shoemaker and his wife too.
c g
When the morning light broke, the poor shoemaker woke
c D7 g
And he saw a fine shoe, it seemed too good to be true
G a
In the door, came a man and he had a fine plan
D7 G D7 G
I would like to buy that shoe and here, double I’ll pay you.
a
With the money he made the poor shoemaker paid
D7 G D7 G
For some leather for a shoe and enough for one more too
c g
With his two scraps of leather he cut out two shoes
c D7 g
And laid them on the table in the morning for to do
c g

c D7 g
I don’t know what we’ll do if I can’t sell these shoes
G a
Late that night, while they slept in their door two elves crept

G a
La la la, La la li. La la li, La la loo,
D7 G D7 G
We will help the poor shoemaker and his wife too.

G a
With the money he made the poor shoemaker paid
D7 G D7 G
For some leather for a shoe and enough for three more too.
c g
With his four scraps of leather, he cut out four shoes
c D7 g
And laid them on the table in the morning for to do
G a
To his wife, then he said, Let us not go to bed
D7 G D7 G
Let us hide and peek through and see who made this shoe.
G a
Late that night, while they hid in their door two elves slid
D7 G D7 G
Those elves worked and sang too as they finished those shoes
G a
La la la, La la li. La la li, La la loo,
D7 G D7 G
We will help the poor shoemaker and his wife too.
G a
When the elves then had gone, it was just about dawn
D7 G D7 G
The shoemaker said we’ll repay them with thread.
G a
So they worked all day long and they sang the elves song
D7 G D7 G
La la la li la loo while they made them clothes and shoes.
G a
At the end of the day on the table there lay
D7 G D7 G
Two elf outfits in blue and two pairs of shoes too.
G a
Late that night while they hid in the door two elves slid
D7 G D7 G
They both widened their eyes when they saw their surprise.
G a
La la la, La la li. La la li, La la loo
D7 G D7 G
We give thanks to the shoemaker and his wife too.
G a
Then they danced in the street with new shoes on their feet.
D7 G D7 G
And the shoemaker and wife lived a very fine life.
