The Tortoise and the Hare Listen here!
Bb F
I run faster
C7 F
Than anybody here.
Bb F
No one would race me
C7 F
For my speed they fear.
F
All the animals in the forest
Bb
Were so tired of that hare.
F C7
All he did was brag about himself,
F
But race him none would dare.
d
One day the tortoise
Bb
Said, that’s enough!
C7 F
I will race you hare
C7 F
Cause you think you are so tough!
F
The hare laughed at the tortoise.
Bb
Try if you dare.
C7 F
You can never keep up
C7 F
With this speedy hare.
F
My legs are meant for running.
Bb
What are yours for?
C7 F
Crawling and creeping
C7 F
Slowly cross the floor.
F d
The tortoise shook his head
Bb
And said he’d like to race.
C7 F
I am determined
C7 F
To put you in your place.
F d
I may be slow,
Bb
But I work hard.
C7 F
Though it may take me
C7 F
All day to cross the yard.
d
I will get there.
Bb
Don’t doubt me hare.
C7 F
Race you I will
C7 F
To win would be a thrill.
F
On the day of the big race
Bb
All the animals were there.
C7 F
They cheered for the tortoise
C7 F
And hoped he’d beat the hare.
F
The hare laughed at the tortoise.
Bb
Try if you dare.
C7 F
You can never keep up
C7 F
With this speedy hare.
F
My legs are meant for running.
Bb
What are yours for?
C7 F
Crawling and creeping
C7 F
Slowly cross the floor.
F d
I will get there.
Bb
Don’t doubt me hare.
C7 F
After the race
C7 F
We’ll see who’s in first place.
F
The tortoise and the hare
Bb
Lined up at the start.
C7 F
The animals cried out, “Go!”
C7 F
And from there they did dart.
F
Well, dart did the hare,
Bb
But the tortoise just crawled.
C7 F
All the animals were hopeful,
C7 F
The hare might get stalled.
F
The hare raced up ahead
Bb
And laughed out loud.
C7 F
There’s no way he could beat me
C7 F
He’s in my dust cloud.
d
The tortoise crawled on
Bb
Slow and steady was his pace.
C7 F
He was determined
C7 F
That he could win the race.
F
The hare continued on
Bb
And then realized
C7 F
Even if I took a nap
C7 F
I’d still win first prize!
F
So the hare pulled to the side
Bb
And closed his eyes.
C7 F
Long before the tortoise passed
C7 F
He knew he would rise.
F d
The tortoise crawled on
Bb
Slow and steady was his pace.
C7 F
He was determined
C7 F
That he could win the race.
F
As the day passed on by
Bb
The hare smiled and dreamed
C7 F
He would win the race soon
C7 F
And king of speed be deemed.
d
The tortoise crawled on
Bb
Slow and steady was his pace.
C7 F
He was determined
C7 F
That he could win the race.
d
There up ahead
Bb
He saw the end.
C7 F
The animals were waiting
C7 F
And cheering for their friend.
F
The hare had never woken.
Bb
The tortoise won first place.
C7 F
Because that hare was lazy
C7 F
He did not win the race.
F
The hare may be faster
Bb
Than anybody here,
C7 F
But the tortoise worked harder
C7 F
And he did persevere.
